400+ Trans Am car show coming to Dayton, Ohio this weekend

It’s one of the best things that an owner of a hotel can hear, and perhaps corporate folks were listening with big grins when Dayton Marriott Director of Sales Pat McGaha told Jim Bucher “we’re going to have an extremely busy hotel this weekend. Excited about it!” on WDTN’s Bucher’s Beat this morning.

It’s the 25th annual Trans Am Nationals that’s bringing in the business and McGaha said, “we’re going to have over 500 registrants” and more than 400 cars are coming for the event, held at the Dayton Marriott, 1414 S. Patterson Boulevard in Dayton, this Friday through Sunday (August 28th through 30th.) McGaha saiys there will be specials at Parmizzano's restaurant and noted that Gambits Bar and Grill and Sharkey’s Poolside Lounge would also be available to those at the show.

The show goes beyond just the Trans Am though. The Trans Am Nationals web page says, “All Firebirds, Formulas, Trans Ams , GTA's & F-Body Firehawks are welcome!”

Appearing on Bucher’s Beat this morning, Milano’s and Buffalo Wild Wings COO Brad Haber explained the attraction to cars such as his 1988 Trans Am GTA, “I think it’s what you grew up with, in your high school years, and this is what I grew up with, and I’ve always had a passion for ‘em… it’s the car I like.”

The location is a new one this year, according to Bucher, making this show “kind of a one stop shop.”

Dayton/ Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau Director of Marketing and Communications Beverly Rose talked about what this means to the area, “we’re thrilled to have the Trans Am Nationals here,” adding that “the event’s gonna bring in over $200,000 of economic impact into our local community, so another great reason to have them here.”

In addition to the car show, the Trans Am Nationals web page says there will be a swap meet and vendors selling their wares.

Pre-registration is over, but you can still register at the show for both days for $50 or Sunday only for $40. They are also planning a 50/50 drawing, and “part of proceeds go to the Special Wish Foundation.”

There will be “trophies given in all classes, Best of Show and other awards.

Swap meet and vendors spaces are $65 each, (12' deep by 30' long) if they are still available; contact Sue Emmel at 937-673-6885 or email And if you haven’t booked your room, check the Trans Am Nationals web page for a special reservation code.

Show times are 10am to 4pm on Saturday and 9am to 4:30pm on Sunday. The swap meet starts earlier, and is held on Friday also, the full schedule is available online.
