Bazetta Gears Up for Annual Ox Roast and Car Show
The family-friendly event features really great value: Everything is free.

BAZETTA — Three days of fun, fellowship and food will be served up this weekend when the Glenn Christian Foundation Church presents its 14th annual Ox Roast, Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show at the Trumbull Country Fairgrounds.

And most of it, including the food, parking, registration and admission, is free.

“This is something Pastor Frank and Linda Glenn started because they wanted to do something for the community,” explained Marcy Chizmar, a member of the church and one of the event’s volunteer organizers.

“Pastor Frank realized a lot of people can’t afford to go to the Trumbull County or Canfield fairs, and he wanted to give families something they could do together and not have to worry about paying a small fortune. He wants this to be a gift to the community.”

The weekend kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday and continues through 10 p.m. Sunday, with the main events taking place Sunday. Chizmar said the event typically attracts several thousand people over the weekend and has become one of the most popular car shows in the area. Attendees are guaranteed their fill of free food, activities and amusement rides throughout the weekend.

“We really rely on our sponsors, and a lot of volunteers, to pull this off each year,” Chizmar said. “We have some fundraisers through the year. A lot of people don’t realize this is a gift. The church doesn’t make any money off of this. All of the money and then some goes into the event, to make it the best we can.”

Friday’s agenda includes a car cruise, bonfire, music, hot dogs, roasted corn on the cob and carnival rides.

The Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show will kick off Saturday with registration from 9 a.m. to noon. The day will include music, a Red Cross blood drive, hot dogs, pop and coffee. Trophies will be awarded for the top 30 cars and 50 motorcycles.

The Main Event Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show will take place from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. Registration will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be 288 trophies awarded in 28 classes. Activities will include an open-air worship service in the grandstands at 10:30 a.m. The 288 trophies will be awarded at 4:30 p.m. (Registrants must have their registration forms to receive their trophies.)

Dash plaques will be given to first 700 car-show registrants. There will be a motorcycle fun run from 12:30 to 3 p.m.; door prizes, music, a demolition derby and fireworks display. Roast-beef sandwiches will be provided.

“It’s a great weekend and a terrific event,” Chizmar said. “A lot of people put a lot of effort into it. You can’t beat it. It’s something the whole family can enjoy and do together and it doesn’t cost anything but your time. And it’s a lot of fun.”
