Hello Race Fans
After it was all said and done last November at the 4th go around of the Street Car Super Nationals that are held at the Strip in Las Vegas, the fans defiantly got their money’s worth… When we turned out the lights after elimination’s a few things were settled in the Hughes Performance Pro Street Class. The number one qualifier Mike Moran who looked unbeatable in qualifying, lost in the 2nd round in a absolute shocker against Brian Lane and at the time, a relative newcomer, Kirk Wilmes drove back home to Oklahoma with over $20,000.00 in cold hard cash. In Outlaw 10.5, Billy Glidden went home a happy camper with over $7,500.00 in winnings and the chance to race side by side with his legendary father Bob!! But that was last year and now old news, so lets fast forward to 2009 and see what’s new and exciting at the raced known as “The Next Big One” SCSN 5
More Big Names, added money for the racers, less track downtime, outrageous pit entertainment, increased event media coverage and did I say more money? I know you’re getting excited, so let me explain…
The Street Car Super Nationals has had the biggest names in the sport over the 1st four years, let me drop some names…Shannon Jenkins, Bill Glidden, Justin Humphreys, Spiro Pappas, Steve Kirk, Mike Moran, Vinny Budano, Scott Palmer, Jay Payne, Pat Musi, Monty Berney, Chuck Samuel, Dennis Radford, Billy Harper, Todd Moyer, Brad Personett, Matt Scranton, Gary White, Dean & Cary Goforth and some guy named Bob Glidden to name a few. Wow, now that’s a who’s who of Heads-Up racing if I have to say so myself!! Can we top that list for this years race? Check out the SCSN website at www.streetcarsupernationals.com and click on the “Contenders” link and you won’t be disappointed.
An additional $15,000.00 in cash has been added into the West Coast’s richest event purse for 2009!! Most notably, Outlaw 10.5 will see the winner’s share double to $10,000 plus another possible $29,000.00 in posted Contingency awards and that doesn’t even count the cash bonus payouts for top qualifiers. We didn’t leave out the Radial guys, as the winner now will walk away with a cool 5-grand!!! When it’s all said and done, this year’s total purse now exceeds $400,000.00
During the 2008 SCSN’s, other than an occasional photo shoot with some really hot girls posing on a Blown Hot Rod and a few Vegas Show Girls cruising the pits, it just wasn’t enough entertainment for an event of this magnitude. New for 2009, will be the Caramba Tequila Party Zone with a huge stage donated by Cooper Tires, a DJ, Caramba Tequila Girls and much much more!! We will have free give-a-ways a few more surprises that are in the works, so bring those dancing shoes and party favors and expect a great time brought to you by the fine folks at Caramba Tequila & Cooper Tires.
When an event of this size has growing pains like it did in 2008, when way too many oil downs slowed the pace down to a track scrubber crawl, LVMS Director of Race Track Operations Chris Blair & PSCA/SCSN President Mel Roth sat down and decided that all cars 9.99 and quicker will be required to use an NHRA Accepted Oil Retention Device in 2009 “The SCSN is one of the best events going and this change will make it even better” says Chris Blair “We have racers from just about every state in the union, including our friends from Canada at this event. We want them to have the opportunity to compete on best prepped track surface in the business and some extra time to visit the attractions that Las Vegas has to offer.”
