2009 Annual Patriot Day Run!
Greg Clark

Patriot Day Run,Car Show

September 11, 2001 was the date of one of the greatest tragedies ever to occur on American Soil. For the fifth straight year, South Florida Mustang owners will be reuniting to pay tribute for a cause. On September 12, 2009, Stangs of South Florida (SSF), a local internet forum (www.stangsofsouthflorida.com) and club made up mostly of Ford Mustang enthusiasts will once again have a huge caravan that will be escorted by local Fire Departments and the Florida Highway Patrol. Last year's attendance saw over 200 Mustangs, and these enthusiasts will once again be making the trek from Davie, Florida to Holiday Isle, located in Islamorada in the Florida Keys. Proceeds from the event benefit a charity organization called For the Fallen (www.forthefallen.org). The event is sponsored once again by Steeda Autosports in Pompano Beach, FL (www.steeda.com). Steeda is the largest manufacturer of aftermarket Mustang parts.

For the Fallen is a charity that benefits families who have lost their loved ones while serving their country and this is the second time they have been the beneficiary for this type of event. The organizers of this event have raised as much as $11,000 in previous years and all proceeds go directly to the charity. Benton Launerts, one of the organizers of the event and part owner of the internet forum says: "This event was started in honor of the victims of the 9/11 tragedy and was made to not only honor their existence, but raise money for their families. Since the original Mustang event was spawned five years ago, 9/11 has since been proclaimed by the US Government as Patriot Day and is now a day to honor those who have died serving our country as well as the victims of 9/11. We thought it was only appropriate that we support the same cause, hence the reason we now call this the Patriot Day Run".  "You should see how 200 Mustangs look in a caravan all with American Flags blazing from their antennas, It is a sight to be seen!"

The event lasts two days and begins on Saturday September 12th at a shopping plaza called "Tower Shops" in Davie, Florida. From there the huge caravan escorted by local Fire Departments and Law Enforcement will be escorted all the way down to Islamorada in the Florida Keys. The attendees usually sell out the world famous Holiday Isle Resort where we host a car show, tribute ceremony complete with raffle drawings and then a very well known after party. Attendees are strongly encouraged to stay over at the hotel which is highly discounted.
