Veterans Motor Car Club Update

The First National Tour of 2013!

Dougherty Museum, Longmont, Colorado

With the last tour of 2012 covered and the first of 2013 still months away this might be the time to go check out car museums. Even if you have visited before most change their displays and something new will likely be waiting for you.

We are lucky enough in my area to have several quality car museums. Perhaps the least well known, outside of Northern Colorado, is the Dougherty Museum. This is a privately held museum of cars collected by a VMCCA member, Ray Dougherty. He is gone now and the museum continues to be run by his children. Ray was a frequent VMCCA tourer.

The museum houses many rare and seldom seen cars, most from before WWII and many still wearing VMCCA tour banners. In addition to cars, there are also collections of pianos, organs and farm equipment. The Dougherty was a stop on the 2009 AAA Glidden Tour in Golden, Colorado.

Do you know what it is? See answer below.

Photo Site - See Link in Quick Links

The Photo Site is one I created originally for my local chapter, although many VMCCA members from other areas now visit it. It covers all the local, regional, and national events that I attend. Obviously, I cannot attend everything but I would like this to become a site for photos from all our regions and chapters.

There are hundreds of pictures from this years AAA Glidden Tour here. Check them out!

Recognize this? It is the distinctive pressure equalizing ball of a 1920's Ahrens Fox fire truck.
