New Automatic Transmission and a Few Design Changes for the 2015 Nissan 370Z Nismo
The new Nissan 370z was originally supposed to have its world debut later this year, but Nissan decided to unveil it much sooner than expected, at this year's ZDayZ, which was held at the Fontana Village Resort in North Carolina May 15-18. It's an event where hundreds of car enthusiasts who own a Nissan Z car go to take part in road racing and drifting competitions, so it's the ideal venue for the official unveiling of a car like the 370z Nismo.
It has been regarded as one of the world's best performance cars in the last couple of decades, thanks to the amazing handling and power, complimented by its great styling. The 2015 370z, which is set to go on sale in July 2014, has undergone some major changes, which are most visible on the front end. It has a redesigned front fascia, which is now much deeper compared to the predecessor, and should result in an increased downforce. The modified side sills and the reshaped rear fascia additionally enhance downforce. The exterior is further improved with the addition of LED Hyper Daytime Running Lights, a signature Nismo rear spoiler, which is slightly smaller than the previous model, and some pretty nice red accents on the side sills. It comes with twin five-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels.
Inside the car, the most noticeable feature are certainly the new Recaro sports seats, which have been restyled and are covered in leather, and have been specifically developed for the 370z Nismo. The steering wheel is covered in red Alcantara leather, to match the color of the seats. The interior is filled with numerous high-tech features that enhance in-car connectivity, with a hard-drive based Nissan Navigation System with a 7-inch touch screen, Sirius XM Satellite Radio, Streaming Audio via Bluetooth, RearView Monitor, and Bose Audio System.
Apart from these design and styling modifications, the most important change is the addition of a 7-speed automatic transmission with Downshift Rev Matching, making the 2015 370z the first Nismo that comes with an automatic transmission. However, those who prefer manual transmission will be able to choose the version with a six-speed manual. No changes have been made under the hood. It's still powered by a 3.7-liter DOHC V6 engine, that delivers 350 horsepower and 276 lb-ft of torque. Handling has also been improved, with the implementation of a 4-wheel independent suspension, and modified stabilizer bars and new springs. The large Nissan Sport Brakes improve deceleration, and the viscous limited-slip differential provide shorter final drive.
With an amazingly aerodynamic body kit, that makes it look a lot like the GT-R Nismo, an upgraded interior, which is now far sportier, and some significant tweaks to the suspension and transmission, the 2015 Nissan 370z Nismo is bound to make a great impression on U.S. performance car enthusiasts, when it hits dealerships in a couple of months. Nissan hasn't released any information about the price, but it's expected to cost somewhere around $44,000, which would make it a bit more expensive than the previous model, that sells for $43,830.
