FORD COBRA SHELBY REUNION, APRIL 19-21, 2012
CELEBRATING 50th ANNIVERSARY OF COBRA
POMONA, Calif. (December, 2011) – Not one but two King Cobras to be featured at the Ford-Cobra-Shelby Reunion scheduled for Pomona, April 19-21, 2012.
“Getting two King Cobras to a single event is very exciting.” Said Lynn Park, guest curator of the 50th Anniversary Cobra exhibit scheduled to open April 20 at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum, Pomona, Calif., in conjunction with the Ford-Cobra-Shelby Reunion. “The King Cobras, of which there were only eight, were a short but exciting chapter in the Cobra story.”
Owners Bill and Evelyn Hartman and Donn Vickery will bring the two King Cobras to the Reunion. Hartman’s car was driven to victory by the late Dave MacDonald at the 1963 LA Times Grand Prix at Riverside and at the ’63 Monterey Pacific Grand Prix at Laguna Seca. Donn’s car, (chassis # CM 6/64) was driven to victory by Parnelli Jones in the LA Times Grand Prix at Riverside in October ’64.
“We’re extremely excited about the addition of these two significant King Cobras to the Reunion,” commented Parks Museum director Tony Thacker. “This is going to be an exciting event with more Cobras coming out of the wood work than you can shake a stick at.”
Scheduled for April 19-21, the Ford-Cobra-Shelby Reunion is a 3-day fun fest for all Cobras, Ford and Ford-powered vehicles, including GT40s and GTs as well as all Shelby vehicles.
The list of activities is still being developed but will include:
· 3 Days of Open Track on the historic Pomona Road Race Course (1956-’63) organized by Mid America Ford Team Shelby.
· A new exhibit honoring the Cobra’s 50th birthday. Lynn Park, curator.
· A banquet honoring Carroll Shelby.
· Show ’N Shine organized by Team Shelby Pacific Coast Region.
· Vendor’s midway, poker run, etc.
Proceeds to benefit the Parks Museum and the Carroll Shelby Foundation.
