Sponsorship Time

Yes it’s that time of year again, when we get bombarded with “Racers” looking for sponsorships.

Here’s my 2 cents for both new “Sponsors”  and  ”Racers”.

Be aware most racers are ONLY looking for FREE stuff and either don’t know how or don’t have any intentions to promote their sponsors.

As a sponsor for everything from racing Lawn Mowers and Jet Skies to Monster Trucks I’ve spent a lot of money to learn this lesson: Nothing should be free. Somehow the “Racer” needs to earn what he / she gets. Whether by promotions, appearances or helping locate customers for the sponsor.

My solution to this dilemma is a balance between my racer and me.

Here’s how it works:

I ask “How much AMSOIL do you want?” Whether its 1 case or 50, I calculate out a $ amount for that product. Then I offer the “Racer” an AMSOIL Dealership ($30/yr) and set a goal to make that figure in commissions. I work with them in setting up Retail and Commercial accounts to meet their goal. Of course they can sell it to the other racers too. How great is that to have the guys you race with financially help support your team!

The “racer” is able to purchase product at wholesale prices and get commissions as well. The “racer can place an AMSOIL link on his web site and ask his fans to help support the Team and order product.

By sponsoring this way I don’t risk losing a lot of $ and the racer is only limited to the amount of money he gets by the amount of effort he puts into it.

I realize my AMSOIL business makes this balancing act easier  than say a dentist or grocery store but this may give you some different ideas .

“Racers” keep in mind when times get tough often it’s the sponsors that will make the difference of you racing or staying home.

Good Luck to you this coming race season!!
