On February 22, 2013 the U. S. Postal Service will issue a Muscle Car stamp series featuring the artwork of local artist Tom Fritz. The series will feature five iconic muscle cars from the late 60’s and early 70’s: the 1970 Chevelle SS, the 1970 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda, the 1966 Pontiac GTO, the 1969 Dodge Charger
Daytona, and the 1967 Shelby GT-500.
The original artwork is in the permanent collection at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Postal Museum in Washington DC.
Tom Fritz is renowned for creating images that impart an encounter between man and machine, engaging us with his colorful brushwork and simple, yet beautifully structured compositions charged with a hint of narrative drama.
And his ability to capture the personality of his human subjects not only conveys the mood and atmosphere of a moment, but also resonates with excitement and authenticity. “My passion is metal making noise, and I strive to offer a unique and sensitive interpretation of the emotion and beauty of power. I
especially enjoy listening to the stories and memories my paintings inspire when they’re exhibited.” – Tom Fritz
